Saints Win Super Bowl

Saints 10/1 Shot to Repeat as Super Bowl Champs

Despite losing to New Orleans Sunday night in the Super Bowl , the Indianapolis Colts are the current favorite to win Super Bowl XLV, with odds of 6/1, according to the odds-makers at Sportsbook.com.  Not much of a surprise here, considering that the Colts still have Peyton Manning as their quarterback.

While there is little denying that the Colts are considered the best team in the AFC, the next two favorites to win Super Bowl are both NFC squads. Not much of a surprise that one of them is the newly crowned champs.  Sportsbook.com have made the Saints a 10/1 shot to once again hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The other NFC team with 10/1 odds to win Super Bowl XLV are the Minnesota Vikings, who were oh so close to reaching Super Bowl XLIV, before Brett Favre’s meltdown at the end of the NFC Championship game against the Saints. The Vikings still aren’t  sure if Favre will come back for the 2010 Regular Season.  As a result, odds-makers have come up with the following prop on the 40-year-old QB:  “Will Brett Favre Play in Week #1 of 2010 NFL Regular Season”? The Yes is currently a very slight -140 favorite.

Sportsbook.com spokesman Dave Staley  stated that  “You would hardly get an argument from anyone that Drew Brees is the second best player in the NFL after Peyton Manning.  One can see why the quarterback is considered the  most important position for a NFL football team.  That is also a big reason why the Colts are currently the favorite to win Super Bowl XLV, because they have the best player in the game in Manning.”

Staley concluded “The NFL is considered the premier sport in the United States because of the parity of the league, where any team can go from 4-12 to 12-4 after only one year, and from Super Bowl Champs to not even making the playoffs the following season.  Just ask the Pittsburgh Steelers, who won Super Bowl XLIII, and then they missed out  on the postseason this past year.”
